Art Grant for Elementary Teachers

Are elementary teachers in your school expected to teach the arts in their classrooms? The SW MN Arts & Humanities Council (SMAHC) has a grant program to enable teachers to participate in an art study opportunity that will help them deliver arts in their classroom. Deadline: May 1, 2009. Application forms can be downloaded at http://smahc.org/school_grants.htm The Art Study Opportunity Grant for Educators is designed to encourage K-12 classroom teachers in the SMAHC region, to study how to better deliver the arts to their students. Special priority will be given to applications from elementary teachers who are not arts specialists but are expected to provide arts in their classroom. Teachers may apply for reimbursement for up to $500 for registration fees and/or tuition, as well as other related costs (books, materials, mileage, meals & lodging when appropriate) to attend classes, workshops or seminars or participate in a one-on-one mentorship with an artist that will provide them with the tools to deliver arts to their students. Grants will be awarded based on the quality of the proposed art training opportunity, the need for the project and the impact on the teachers ability to deliver arts to students. Please pass this on to your elementary teaching staff. Contact the SMAHC office for additional information.
